Rameshwaram Temple is believed to have been established by Bhagwan Ram to atone for Brahmahatya (killing of a Brahmin) after defeating Ravana. It’s one of the holiest temples in Hinduism.

According to legend, Hanuman ji was sent to bring a Shiv lingam from Kailash. But when he was delayed, Sita created a lingam from sand, known today as Ramlingam.

The lingam brought by Hanuman ji, called Vishwalingam, is also worshipped at the temple. Ram instructed that the Vishwalingam be worshipped first, a tradition still followed today.

Rameshwaram Temple is one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites, along with Badrinath, Puri, and Dwarka. It holds immense significance for Hindu devotees.
