When is Mahashivaratri 2025?

Mahashivratri 2025: As soon as the time of Mahashivaratri comes near everyone starts asking about the date, the importance and the stories behind celebrating this grand festival. This year Mahashivratri will be celebrated on 26th February, which is Monday. This festival is considered very special for the worship of Lord Shiva and and to please him. Importance of Mahashivaratri

Mahashivaratri is a very special day because according to hindu beliefs it was this day when the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati happened. By fasting on this day and worshiping Lord Shiva you get relief from negative forces and happiness and peace comes in the lives of devotees.

How to do Worship on MahaShivRatri

  • After getting up early in the morning take a bath. It is important to add a few drops of Ganges water in your bathing water. After bathing take a pledge to keep the fast.
  • After taking a bath, wear some Indian attires and go to the nearby Shiva temple and anoint the Shivling with milk, curd, ghee, honey and Ganga water on the Shivling there.
  • You can also offer bail leaves, dhatura to please mahadev more.
  • After you return back from shiv temple, recite “Om Namah Shivay” whenever you get time.
  • It is also important to recite Shiva Chalisa and Shiva Aarti at night.

The Story behind Mahashivaratri

According to the stories Devi Sati who was the first wife of Lord Shiva was born as Parvati in the family of Himalaya Raj. She started meditating from childhood to receive Lord Shiva as a husband. When she grew young Lord Shiva told her to stop praying for him since he is an ascetic and she is the daughter of a king. Shiva advised her to marry a price so that she don’t have to loose all the comforts she is used to in her father’s kingdom but Parvati ji did not move with the stubbornness of getting Shiva. Lastly, Lord Shiva got pleased with the dedication of Devi Parvati and both of them got married. It is believed that both of them got married on the day we celebrate MahaShivRatri
