Labh Panchami: What is Labh Panchami? Know the Rituals and Auspicious Timing

Labh Panchami, also known as “Saubhagya Labh Panchami,” is a festival primarily celebrated in Gujarat. It marks the conclusion of the Diwali festivities in Gujarat. According to the Hindu calendar, Labh Panchami falls on the fifth day (Panchami) of the Kartik Shukla Paksha. Typically, it is celebrated a week after Kali Chaudas and five days after Diwali. Labh Panchami is also known as “Lakheni Panchami,” “Gyan Panchami,” and “Saubhagya Panchami.” This day is considered highly auspicious for gains and prosperity. According to Hindu beliefs, performing puja on Labh Panchami brings happiness, prosperity, success in business, and good fortune.

Auspicious Timing for Labh Panchami

This year, Labh Panchami will be celebrated on November 6. According to astrologer Acharya Rakesh from Bhopal, the auspicious time for Labh Panchami will be from 6:12 AM to 10:08 AM. The Panchami tithi begins on November 6 at 12:16 AM and ends on November 7, 2024, at 12:41 AM.

Significance of Labh Panchami

Labh Panchami is primarily celebrated in Gujarat. After this festival, Diwali celebrations come to a close, and shops and businesses reopen after the Diwali break. It is considered an extremely auspicious day for businessmen to start new ventures or restart business activities. On this day, people worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, open new account books, and pray for wisdom and prosperity. Many devotees also worship Goddess Saraswati to enhance their knowledge and success.

In Gujarat, it is traditional to visit friends and relatives from Diwali until Labh Panchami. This festival also provides an opportunity to reconnect with those with whom relationships may have grown distant. Sweets and gifts are exchanged to strengthen bonds and bring warmth to relationships.

Rituals for Labh Panchami Puja

On Labh Panchami, devotees should wake up before sunrise and bathe. Offer water to the Sun God (Surya) as an offering. During the auspicious time, place idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva. Take a betel nut (supari) and wrap it with a sacred thread. Place a pile of rice nearby, and if possible, place Lord Ganesha’s idol on it. Offer sindoor, sandalwood paste, flowers, and durva (sacred grass) to Lord Ganesha. To Lord Shiva, offer sacred ash, bel leaves, a white cloth, and dhatura flowers. For the offering, modaks are given to Lord Ganesha and milk-based sweets to Lord Shiva. Complete the puja by chanting the specific Labh Panchami mantras for both deities.
