Why is Sharadiya Navratri Significant?
As the Ashwin month marks the onset of autumn, this Navratri is called Sharadiya Navratri. Goddess Durga represents strength, and devotees worship her with rituals, fasting, and offerings during these nine days to seek spiritual power, happiness, and prosperity.
In the Valmiki Ramayana, it is mentioned that before the climb to Lanka, Lord Rama worshipped Goddess Durga near Rishyamook Mountain in Kishkindha. Upon Brahma’s advice, he performed the worship of Goddess Durga, also known as Chandi Devi, from the first day (Pratipada) to the ninth day (Navami).
