Although Rama was supposed to become king, his stepmother Kaikeyi wanted her own son, Bharata, to become king. She asked King Dasharatha to send Rama into exile for fourteen years. Rama, being obedient, agreed and went to the forest with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana.

In the forest, Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana met many sages, demons, and faced many challenges. One day, Sita was kidnapped by Ravana, the powerful demon king of Lanka. Ravana took her to his kingdom.

Rama wanted to rescue Sita, so he made friends with the monkey king Sugriva and his minister Hanuman. Hanuman was very powerful and loyal to Rama. Hanuman found Sita in Lanka and told her that Rama would come to save her.
Rama, with the help of his friends, built a bridge to Lanka and fought a big battle against Ravana. In the end, Rama defeated Ravana and saved Sita.
Return to Ayodhya
After the fourteen years of exile, Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana returned to Ayodhya. Rama became the king, and his rule is remembered as a time of great happiness and prosperity. This period is known as “Rama Rajya.”
