Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Story: There are two ways to worship and pray to Lord Shiva. The first way is to worship his idol in which Lord Shiva covers himself with animal skin, wears Ganga ji in his matted hair and also wears a half moon on his head and Vasuki snake is around his neck. This form is the Sagun Sakar form of Lord Shiva.
But there is another way to worship and please Lord Shiva and that is to worship his Nirgun form. This Nirgun form of Lord Shiva can be seen in the form of Jyotirlinga.
In India, Lord Shiva is mostly worshipped in the form of Linga in every Shiva temple, but even in these Linga forms, Lord Shiva has the most significance in his self-manifested Jyotirlinga.
Let us know what is Jyotirlinga.
What is Jyotirlinga?

The word ‘Jyotirlinga’ is made up of two parts—Jyoti i.e. light and Linga i.e. symbolic form of Lord Shiva. This is a Shivling in which Shiva himself is established in the form of fire or light. According to the Puranas, when there was a dispute between Brahma and Vishnu regarding superiority, then Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a huge pillar of fire and made them realize his infinity. Jyotirlingas were established at 12 places as a symbol of that divine pillar.

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Story (Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Katha)

It is mentioned in Koti Rudra Samhita of Shiva Purana. It is considered to be the tenth Jyotirlinga. Let’s know more about it!
Daruka (a demoness) lived in the forest with her demon husband Daruka. Daruka had a boon from Goddess Parvati that she could fly over the entire forest.
Once Daruka and Daruka decided to destroy the entire forest. The suffering people living in the forest approached Maharshi Aurva and shared their grief.
Maharshi Aurva cursed the demons that if they fight on earth or destroy someone’s penance, their end would be certain.
When the gods came to know about this incident, they decided to attack the demons. The demons knew that if they fought on earth, they would be destroyed, but if they did not fight, they would be defeated by the gods.
To escape this situation, Daruka took the entire forest and flew it into the middle of the ocean. The demons lived on an island.
Once some men reached this island by boat, who were captured by the demons. Among these captives was a woman named Supriya, a devotee of Shiva.
Supriya started penance inside the prison and inspired the other captives to join in the worship of Lord Shiva. All of them started praying to Shiva daily.
When Daruka came to know about this, he threatened Supriya and decided to kill her.
Supriya prayed to Lord Shiva, and Lord Shiva appeared before her. He destroyed all the demons.
But Daruka returned again to help his wife. On this Lord Shiva told the men that they could do penance and pray to all the gods in this forest; There is no place for demons here.
Daruka got scared on hearing Lord Shiva’s voice and started calling Goddess Parvati. She begged Parvati to protect her newborn babies.
Parvati requested Lord Shiva to allow the demon children to live on this island. Lord Shiva said Tathastu and blessed her.
He said that to take care of his followers, he would reside here in the form of Linga. Thus Lord Shiva came to be known as Nageshwar.
This is the story of Lord Nageshwar.
But it is worth noting that the stories regarding the belief and locations of Jyotirlinga are more complex. According to Shiva Purana and Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotra, Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is located in Darukavan.
Today there are three famous temples named Nageshwar:
First: Located in Dwarka, Gujarat.
Second: In Almora, Uttarakhand.
Third: In Hingoli, Maharashtra.
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is not only a center of faith for Shiva devotees, but it is also a symbol of power, penance, and the compassionate form of Lord Shiva. Its story gives us a deep message of religion, devotion and love for those who seek refuge.
