Mangalwar Vrat Katha (Tuesday Fast Story): Hanumanji is known as the god of strength, courage, service, and devotion. For this reason, the Puranas also refer to him as Sakalgunanidhaan (repository of all virtues). Goswami Tulsidas ji also wrote in Shri Hanuman Chalisa that:
Chaaro yug prataap tumhaara, hai parasiddha jagat ujiyaara
This verse means that Hanumanji is the only deity present in all four Yugas, and it is his valor that illuminates the world. Therefore, Hanumanji, with his qualities, will always be present as a savior in every yuga.
The scriptures state that serving Hanumanji and observing his fasts ensure his special grace on his devotees. Hanumanji’s fast is observed on Tuesdays. Let’s learn about the Tuesday Fast Story.
Tuesday Fast Story (Mangalwar Vrat Katha)
Once upon a time, a Brahmin couple was childless and extremely distressed. The Brahmin went to the forest to worship Hanumanji and to pray for a son. At home, his wife also used to observe Tuesday fasts’ to seek a child. She used to conclude her fast by offering food to Hanumanji before eating.
One Tuesday, the Brahmin’s wife could not prepare food or offer it to Hanumanji. She vowed to offer food to Hanumanji the next Tuesday before eating. She remained hungry and thirsty for six days and fainted on Tuesday. Pleased by her devotion, Hanumanji blessed her with a son, promising that he would serve her well.
Overjoyed, she named the child Mangal. When the Brahmin returned and saw the child, he asked who he was. His wife explained that Hanumanji had blessed them with the child due to her Tuesday fast. The Brahmin didn’t believe her.
One day, the Brahmin threw the child into a well. Upon returning home, his wife asked where Mangal was. Just then, Mangal came smiling from behind. The Brahmin was astonished. That night, Hanumanji appeared in his dream and confirmed that he had blessed them with the child.
Knowing the truth, the Brahmin was very happy. Thereafter, the Brahmin couple and their son started observing fast for Hanumanji every Tuesday.
Anyone who reads or listens to the Mangalwar Vrat Katha and faithfully observes the fast will be relieved of all troubles and receive all pleasures by Hanumanji’s grace.
